Snowy Days to Relish

Snow days. A rarity in Portland. Having grown up in small town Minnesota, I am familiar with bad winter weather. It’s a big part of the reason I no longer live there. Here in Oregon, where we are quite famous for our dreary, rainy winters, and any real accumulation of snow is a bit of excitement.

It felt like Christmas morning as we jumped out of bed to check out the weather conditions. After nearly 15 hours of snowfall, it was quite clear we would not be heading to work on that day. Devastated? Well, not so much. It is a rare thing, indeed, to be able to call in for a snow day.

The next three days were a winter wonderland. We were able to experience snow for the first time with Porter and Aspen. We became obsessed with The Following on Netflix. We worked on our schoolwork and watched movies and slept in.

It came to an end, of course,  just as we were ready for it to move on it’s way. While the original excitement of the fluffy white flakes was real indeed, we are quite aware that dealing with the slush and ice rain and frozen car doors on a long-term basis is just not what we are looking for, but oh, what a joy it was while it lasted.
