We recently stayed at South Beach Campground for the second time this year, the first being for the Rogue Brewers Memorial Ale Fest in May, and this time camping with friends Dave, Anne and their daughter Zoey for her very first camping trip.
With the weather forecast not horribly promising, we none-the-less all headed to the beach knowing full well that the Oregon coast has mercurial weather at the best of times. Luck was with us and our arrival Friday evening was sunny and bright. Zoey, age 3, instantly bonded again with Maddy, whom she hadn’t seen for some time, and was fascinated with our camper, unsure why we drove our house to the beach:)
Despite a grey start to the day, we spent most of Saturday at the beach… building sand castles, lounging in the sand, and playing in the surf. Maddy, despite getting easily tired with old age creeping in, had a fantastic day and after each trip into the water was content to lie on the blanket with me and watch the day go by.
Overall it was simply a marvelous, easy weekend away. Shared meals and lazy days on the beach and in front of the fire….the dog days of summer don’t get much better.
