With fall approaching upon us, we wanted to get in as much late season camping as possible and fishing on the John Day was calling! Le Page park is one or favorite getaways, with the climate and scenery of the high desert of Central Oregon, but just a 2-hour scenic drive down the awe-inspiring corridor that is the Columbia Gorge.
Dove Lewis is, as the staff purports “The place you hope you never need but are glad it’s there”. That was exactly our experience when it was time for Maddy to leave us; although everyone dreads the idea of having to take their beloved pet to their final vet visit, it was a huge blessing to us that they are available 24-hours/day and so she didn’t have to endure a long and painful night before our normal vet opened.Founded in 1973, Dove is the only 24-hr, non-profit emergency and ICU animal hospital in Oregon.
We loved Bali; the scenery, the food, the people, the culture, it’s an amazing island. The local artisans are expert carvers, as evidenced by our lodging in Ubud. Off a dusty side alley and through a falling apart door, we came upon a sort of Eden, all at a bargain price! We could have stayed forever.
Barcelona is one of our favorite cities in Europe and we are endlessly amazed by the gorgeous Sagrada Familia.
After a shocking one month break from camping, we headed to Central Oregon to Lake Billy Chinook with our new black dog, Porter, and our camping buddies, Ron & Dario. Our favorite moments are spent in the camper, and we were missing it greatly. Although we have a very comfortable house and quite fantastic back yard/palapa we’ve learned that being on the road is where we’re most at home.

By this point in our drive we were, quite frankly, fed up with India. The crowds, cow traffic jams, garbage everywhere, open sewers, bad roads and chauvinistic men had caused my temper to be at the point of breaking. As we neared the end of our tour in the North we were at the point of just wanting to get it over with and head South to see if we could re-capture the magic of Incredible India. I know I’ve been silent on this blog for the last several weeks. The passing of our beloved Maddy shattered us. After the first few days of constant crying jags, we tried to learn to adjust without her in our lives and it was devastating. She had become such a constant in our lives that, with her gone, we truly understood the absolute silence that existed without her. Morning was our special mommy & Maddy time…. we’d go outside for a pee and then she’d eat her breakfast and sit in the kitchen, watching me intently, while I told her what the day was to bring as I made coffee and lunches. Now, I found myself alone and would collapse into great gulping sobs, finding myself hunched over, hypher-ventilating, feeling as though I’d been gut-punched. Continue reading
One of the highlights of our time in New Zealand was heli hiking at Franz Josef Glacier. Amazing blue lakes existed amongst the ice…truly incredible!
Foto Friday once again comes to you from Vietnam, a gorgeous country, seeped in history. We really enjoyed our time in Hoi An, one of the few cities not maimed by the war. Wandering the narrow streets is like walking back in time to the colonial era of the country, smelling french bread baking next to a street cart selling fish sauce – a perfect combination of Vietnamese society.
