Africa is filled with dozens of tribal factions, one of the most well known being the Masai. At each village we visited we were honored by a traditional dance from the women, followed by the jumping ritual of the men. There are many magic moments in travel, but surely spending time among these fascinating people ranks near the top.
Africa, we never get tired of visiting there. Although most people are fascinated with the Big 5 and huge herds of animals moving across the plains, the birds of Africa are as colorful and unique as their larger companions.
The fascinating Masai culture and people were all around us in our time in East and Southern Africa, protecting our camps at night, selling gorgeous beaded jewelry, and entertaining us with dance. Here are some of the lovely ladies we met along the way.
The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the natural marvels of the world, two to three million years old, 2000 feet deep and over 100 square miles, it is surely one of the more remarkable places we’ve ever been. Located 110 miles west of Arusha, Tanzania, thousands of tourists flock here every year to see one of the most amazing wildlife displays on the planet.
Africa is one of our favorite continents and in a lifetime we could never tire of the iconic sights, such as this Masai warrior walking in the Masai Mara.
