Oh, the joy of a sunset. A sundowner is one of the favorite part of any day of ours, and we have experienced thousands of spectacular ones throughout the world. The end of one day, transforming into the night before the cycle begins again is consistently magical. This one, from the scenic coast of Oregon.
The pink limo pulled up in front of our camping cabin at the Graceland RV park. Taste buds drooling, we climbed in for our short ride to Marlowe’s BBQ restaurant, a BBQ institution in Memphis. The food was amazing as promised; BBQ chicken and ribs, creamy potato salad, tangy coleslaw, freshly made biscuits, and southern sweet tea. Life was tasty!
For this frigid day in Oregon, I fondly think back on this serene summer scene from the San Juan Islands.

I have always been a bit fascinated by the Southwestern United States. Although I had traveled through the area several times as a child, for some reason my parents never found the area interesting enough to actually spend time in. When Jim and I decided to take an extended road trip around the U.S. a couple of years ago, we made sure to include plenty of time for the National parks, Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and, especially, Santa Fe.
We have a fairly substantial shell collection from our travels around the world, but this partially damaged sand dollar was particularly appealing to me.
At the Tombs of the Emperors temple complex, just south of Hue on the Perfume River, has some fantastic temples offering exquisite detail. If you find yourself in Hue, taking the very interesting, albeit touristy, cruise down the Perfume River is a must.
We have spent more time in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico than anywhere else on earth, except home. Our most recent trip showed that, in spite of some inevitable changes, much of the city retains the charm and culture that we so appreciate.
Africa, a continent of magic. Often referred to as the “Birthplace of Humanity”, it is a land that has drawn me back again and again. Of the many fascinating regions of this vast continent, one of the most compelling is Etosha National Park, set in North-central Namibia. Etosha means “place of dry water”, an excellent description. The semi-arid savannah, full of thorn scrub, is very flat and very dry. All of which equals extraordinary wildlife viewing. The park covers over 22750 KM, and is home to hundreds of species of animals.
