Malawi was one of the countries we’ve visited that really changed us. Extraordinarily poor, extremely friendly, the people of Malawi will steal your heart. We will feature an entire blog post of the children we met along the way but for today, a sunrise photo over Lake Malawi.

Africa is one of our favorite continents and in a lifetime we could never tire of the iconic sights, such as this Masai warrior walking in the Masai Mara.
We love Thailand and have traveled there several times. One of our favorite days is to wake early to head to the Damnoen Saduak floating market not far outside of Bangkok. A morning spent chatting with the vendors, eating noodle bowls and fried bananas, and stocking up on spices is a morning well spent.
Foto Friday comes to you from South Dakota. Mt. Rushmore is a place I’ve been many times throughout my life but Jim experienced it for the first time on our roadtrip around the United States several years ago. Although impressive during the day, I have always loved the view at night.
Udaipur, most famous for it’s Lake Palace, was the next stop on our route. It does, of course, also have an impressive fort! Built in 1559, and fort is massive with many overlapping courtyards, terraces, and gardens and set overlooking the lake and the Maharaja’s current residence on the far side.

We continued on from Bikaner, further into the desert west towards Jaisalmer. Located near the Pakistan border, Jaisalmer has a significant military presence and an impressive fort. Continue reading
Our second island visit in the San Juans was Orcas island, a much larger and busier island than Lopez. While we were sad to leave our fantastic beachfront campsite on Lopez, we were extremely excited to head to Orcas for one reason: Doe Bay Resort.
Back in February when we were researching and booking this trip I found Doe Bay online. We were taken back by the cost ($62 for a non-hookup site!), but we were drawn to the ideals of an organic, earthy, yoga inspired resort. The advertised soaking pools on a deck overlooking the bay sealed the deal! Continue reading
The San Juan Islands, famous here in the Northwest and beyond as a haven for boaters, those seeking solitude, and hippies. Surprisingly enough, neither Jim nor I had ever traveled there before. We were told the week of July 4th was not the optimal time to to travel to the islands, with stories of 10 hour waits for the ferries and overcrowded campgrounds but we decided to take the chance.
